Scale up confidently from lab to bigger scales
Every successful product begins with strong data. Our lab-scale services let you test coating formulations efficiently with just a few liters of coating material. We handle everything from precise color preparation to coating application, and specialized measurements. Application techniques like draw-down coating, spray, curtain coating or pond size press can be used to your unique project needs.
Upscaling from lab to semi-pilot scale is enabling pre-screening of coating performance in continuous process with quite small amounts of coating materials. At our semi-pilot scale lines, we work with 10–50 liters of coating color, testing real-world application methods such as flexo, roll, gravure and reverse gravure or spray. This lets you optimize coating performance in roll-to-roll process conditions, minimize risk, and confidently prepare for full-pilot scale production.
KCL’s full pilot-scale line is one of the most versatile in the industry. We can test recipes in production-like conditions using film size press (standard or hard nips), roll, jet, spray and curtain coating. We can even run demo production for your market launch. Typical trials use around 200 litres of coating color per recipe, providing actionable results without requiring full production commitment.
Beyond coating: analytics, finishing and expert support
Our support doesn’t stop at coating. We also offer customised analyses, such as evaluating barrier properties, heat sealability, recyclability and home compostability. After the coating trials we can calender, slit, rewind or print finished reels to help you explore your product’s full potential before it hits the market.
