Packaging ready for the PPWR?

EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) became largely applicable on 12 August, 2026, introducing new requirements for all packaging placed on the EU market.

In the first phase, companies must be able to provide technical documentation, Packaging Declarations of Conformity, packaging minimization, and compliance with restrictions of substances, such as PFAS and heavy metals. Additional obligations covering recyclability, recycled content and reuse will be introduced step by step by 2040.

Understanding how packaging performs in a recycling process and if it meets the future regulations may be a challenge for packaging developers. As the importance of recyclability continues to grow toward 2030, when recyclability rating and additional performance criteria will gradually become mandatory.

KCL can help you to identify potential risks already during the product development phase. The results support product development, reduce future compliance risk and provide evidence to recyclability claims.

We can provide you testing and recyclability assessment according to Paper and board – Recyclability Laboratory Test Method –  PART I: Recycling mill with conventional process (CEPI method) and  PART III: Recycling mill with specialized process.

KCL’s strength is not only in testing, but also in its expertise in fibre, board and packaging materials.
